Francisco Mora

Francisco Mora

Francisco Mora was born in 1952 in Mexico City. He has studied at the following schools: Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes (San Carlos), Escuela Superior de Pintura y Escultura (Mexico City), Giovanni Michelli Studio (Florence Italy), and the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. Since 1984 he has lived and worked with his wife, Jennifer, in Milwaukee.

Mora specializes in art work of a fantastic nature. Of his work, he says: “Using bright colors and mythical symbols, I tell stories and dreams of timeless situations.”

Animals, such as armadillos, lizards, and birds that are prevalent in Mora”s work, have origins in Mexican folklore. Still other ethnic touches in his paintings come from pre-Colombian art, such s geometric designs on the borders, and often paints on amate, a paper that is handcrafted from tree bark.

Mora”s angular managerie on paper has a surreal quality coming from a dream state and whimsical.
